SOLID FLOOR

No ordinary flooring company, Solid Floor is characterised by creativity, commitment and craftsmanship. Founded in 1994 by Dutch designer and entrepreneur Eelke Jan Bles, we specialise in bespoke flooring, offering quality timber and stairs' runners all custom-made to the most exacting specifications. With showrooms located in both Marylebone and Notting Hill, we have established a solid reputation as London’s premier flooring specialist.

ROB WEEMS

Rob joined Solid Floor in 2003. Today, as the company’s co-owner, he is responsible for the day-to-day running of the showrooms, and has played a key role in developing and expanding our carpet range. Like Eelke, he takes a hands-on approach, collaborating closely with our client base of architects and interior designers. “It’s really important to nurture those creative relationships,” says Rob. “For us, there’s nothing more stimulating than working with inventive and innovative people.”

EELKE JAN BLES

Eelke has always combined creativity with entrepreneurial flair, opening Solid Floor’s first showroom in Amsterdam while still a young photography student. Later, after attending The Bartlett – the Faculty of the Built Environment at University College London – he moved to the city and began importing beautiful flooring. Today, Eelke oversees the growth of Solid Floor and Solid ID, a property and interior design company, working on interior projects worldwide.

SUSTAINABLE FLOORS

We like to make sure that the origins of our woods are preserved and protected for future generations too. The majority of our timber collections are certified against the FSC ® or PEFC chain of custody standard.

These international organisations promote responsible forest management and their Chain of Custody (CoC) certification connects responsible practices with consumers, making it easier to choose natural resources without destroying our environment.

Sourcing certified materials is a fantastic first step towards ‘green living’, but you can do more. Solid Floor looked at ethical floorboard manufacturing and found two innovative timber mills, based in Europe and South America.

Wherever possible, we purchase from these timber mills to ascertain that ecological sustainable production processes are being used in manufacturing your floor. We believe that our timber suppliers’ on-going investments and innovations will benefit us all and we are proud to be actively supporting their businesses.
