Neon & Tresse: Two New Creative Parquet Patterns

Neon reimagines the traditional parquet floor with broad engineered flat-grain oak battens whose corners soften into sweeping curves. The result is a flowing geometric pattern that feels both graphic and inviting, with each plank appearing to slide seamlessly into the next.

Inspired by the confident forms of the 1980s yet designed for contemporary interiors, Neon brings a sense of rhythm and movement to a space without overwhelming it. The rounded transitions create a gentler visual language than conventional straight-edged flooring, balancing bold design with the warmth and authenticity of natural Select-grade oak.

Inspired by the woven geometry of traditional Versailles parquet, Tresse reinterprets this historic pattern as a flowing composition of interlaced oak. Familiar yet unexpected, it combines timeless craftsmanship with a distinctly contemporary expression.

Both parquet patterns are available as engineered oak parquet in Select grade only, in the three Oscar Ono house colours: Natural, Smoke and Black.

Modern End-Grain

Inspired by the traditional wooden cobblestones found in 19th-century Paris, each pattern is designed to create impact—visually bold, tactile underfoot, and resilient enough for demanding environments. Already chosen for a range of high-profile projects including Hotel Dame des Arts in Paris, Les Ateliers Courbet in New York, and several Diptyque boutiques worldwide, these end-grain surfaces are crafted for interiors where materials are selected with intent and individuality in mind.

Precision Meets Material Integrity

The strength of OscarOno's end-grain floors lies in the marriage of technical refinement and material honesty. End-grain oak is created by cutting the timber across the grain, revealing its intricate cellular structure and natural variation. Historically, end-grain blocks were used for wooden cobblestone streets and workshop floors, valued for their ability to absorb sound and withstand constant wear. Their dense structure not only softened the noise of horse-drawn carts but also endured decades of footfall and impact without splintering.

While end-grain flooring is traditionally known for its performance, it has also been considered one of the more labour-intensive options. Most end-grain installations require on-site finishing, a process that involves sanding, sealing, and treating each piece in situ. OscarOno eliminates this challenge by delivering a fully prefinished product that arrives ready to install. The result is a surface with all the integrity and resilience of end-grain, but without the extended installation process or complexity of traditional methods.

Four Patterns, Endless Combinations

The end-grain collection comprises four striking patterns, each with its own visual rhythm and spatial potential. All four end-grain surfaces are sealed with an ultra-matte invisible lacquer, protecting the timber while preserving its tactile quality and visual depth. The natural texture of the oak remains fully legible, contributing to an interior that feels both grounded and refined.

Opus, Forêt and Qubes are all pre-formatted on engineered boards to ensure dimensional stability and simplify installation. This also makes the collection compatible with underfloor heating and suitable for vertical applications, expanding its potential beyond the floor to walls, ceilings and other architectural features. All three designs are available in both end-grain and flat-grain versions. The recently launched Element is composed of a single modular engineered timber building block that can be repeated in different ways to create an array of patterns.

Forêt

A modular end-grain design consisting of six interchangeable elements. This allows for creative freedom, enabling designers to mix and rotate pieces to generate custom compositions. Forêt is also available in a flat-grain variation, offering a more understated interpretation of the same pattern language.

Element

Element is composed of a single modular engineered timber building block that can be repeated in various ways to create an array of patterns. From this simple component comes remarkable design freedom, allowing geometric compositions that range from restrained and minimal to bold and expressive. Different colours can also be combined to create striking two-tone surfaces.

Deep Colour Through and Through

These end-grain finishes are designed to be both beautiful and robust. The Natural and Smoke tones permeate the entire oak layer, ensuring that any surface wear reveals consistent colour throughout. This makes them ideal for high-traffic areas and public-facing environments.

The Black finish is achieved using the traditional Japanese technique of shou sugi ban, a burning process that creates a deeply textured, charred surface with rich tonal variation. It is then finished with a black oil to enrich the colour further. All finishes are sealed with a durable, ultra-matte lacquer that protects the timber while preserving its natural appearance.
